The new exclusive fragrance from Guerlain — Le Songe de la Reine — opens with a fresh and vivid blend of mandarin and bergamot, revealing the aroma of figs in the heart, herbaceous, green, and with milky sweetness, set on a woody base of sandalwood and cedar.
“This is a fragrance full of contrasts, wherein the woody notes, in their strength and sensuality, are confronted with the vegetal vitality of fig sap,” describes Thierry Wasser, Guerlain perfumer.
Guerlain is collaborating with jewelry designer Begüm Khan to create a work of art from a bottle in gold-plated bronze and encrusted with pavé gemstones. The inspiration is the meeting of East and West, and the designer stated, “Since embarking on this collaboration, I have been constantly amazed by the synergies between myself, a young Turkish designer, and the centuries-old house of Guerlain.”
The source of inspiration for Begüm Khan are bees, the symbol of the perfume house. “Bees have always intrigued me: They are a common sight, buzzing all around us, and yet their beauty is often overlooked. They are fragile yet strong, and there is something inspiring in this dichotomy. Bees are also synonymous with Guerlain, so they were a natural choice for our collaboration,” the artist said.
Le Songe de la Reine — Le Flacon aux Abeilles by Begüm Khan
Top: mandarin, bergamot, pink pepper
Heart: fig, iris
Base: sandalwood, cedar, vetiver
Begüm Khan decided to create a gem that contains elements that evoke Ottoman art and the West as the world of Guerlain. An Imperial Bee escapes from its imaginative and luxurious universe to land on a bottle, fringed by four majestic flowers. Each piece is handcrafted by Turkish craftsmen in an historic workshop near the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul.
The ornaments on the bottle are coated with 24 carat gold and paved with approximately 6,500 colored gems. Each stone is added by hand.
Le Songe de la Reine by Begüm Khan is a limited edition, available as Eau de Parfum in a 1 liter bottle. It is available in only 13 pieces, and each of them costs 10,000 Euros.
